Soldiers find friendship, fun times as ‘Weekend Warriors’

Fighting dragons, goblins and warlocks isn’t just for movies.

Soldiers with the 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, are getting together to play games on the weekends as a fun, safe alternative to the bars and clubs, said Spc. Daniel A. Luusua, clerk for the Brigade Troops Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade.

Free education fair for Soldiers in Nashville

Fort Campbell Soldiers can get a jump on their education and a shot at door prizes at the upcoming Council of College and Military Educators Symposium.

The symposium will be held at the Nashville Convention Center in Nashville. This year’s conference, held for the first time in “Music City,” is based around “Developing a 21st Century Total Force – A Matter of Honor.”

Choosing conservation

There are countless little ways that individuals can conserve energy, such as turning off lights and using natural light, or turning off equipment when it’s not being used. But often people just don’t do them. How much could it really save?

According to Dewayne Smith, energy manager at the Directorate of Public Works, approximately $1 million a year at Fort Campbell.

Currahee, Screaming Eagle ties help celebrate Korean New Year

An American girl dressed in a flowing pink kimono and a Korean American boy sang a sweet rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner,” and the Republic of Korea’s “National Anthem” as a proud and reverent crowd placed their hands over their hearts and sang along to both.

Lieutenant Col. Ivan P. Beckman, commander of the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, spoke at the Korean American Association of Clarksville, Tenn.’s New Years Celebration dinner Jan. 16, at Austin Peay State University.

Passion of AFAP teens

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Throughout the week of the Army Family Action Plan conference, the 13 Army Teen Panel members developed posters, a cross-garrison simultaneous event, a presentation to senior Army leaders on their activities, a “Strength of the Nation” contest for Army youth during the Month of the Military Child in April, and, most importantly, the top four issues impacting military youth – presented the final morning of the AFAP conference.

Inspired by Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch, IMCOM commanding general, during his opening remarks at the AFAP conference on Monday, the teens adopted his message; “Are we doing the right thing; are we doing things right?” They intend to make this theme heard around the world through 30- and a 60-second video spots.

Program builds Currahee-strong relationships

The classroom-style setting played host to more than 70 Currahees and their significant others in a laid-back atmosphere that seemed to inspire thought, communication and several smiles.

The 801st Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, hosts a monthly seminar on building healthy relationships as a proactive attempt to give their Soldiers the tools needed to build stronger relationships and avoid the occurrence of domestic situations at Fort Campbell.

Sewn with care for Soldiers

Sewing for Soldiers is definitely a trend in Hopkinsville with the 4-H clubs, but now it’s spreading to the students at Lincoln Elementary School at Fort Campbell.

“This project is an amazing way for children to show their support and say thank you to the Soldiers for all they have done for our country,” said Toni Riley, 4-H agent in Hopkinsville.

Seminar provides ways to reach out to Soldiers, Families

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Nearly 200 concerned residents gathered Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Clarksville. During the Bridges to Healing seminar, residents learned how to better support Fort Campbell Soldiers and their Families.

The seminar provided participants with information on how they can reach out to help Soldiers and their Families face combat-related injuries, particularly Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
