Military children program
The Feb. 17 deadline for students to apply for the 2010 Scholarships for Military Children Program is fast approaching. All students interested and eligible to apply are encouraged to gather their materials and submit their applications as soon as possible.
One of the materials needed includes an essay on the following topic: “You can travel back in time, however, you cannot change events. What point in history would you visit and why?”
Applications and entry information is available in commissaries worldwide and online through a link at www.commissaries.com and directly at www.militaryscholar.org. Applications must be turned in to a commissary by close of business Feb. 17. At least one scholarship will be awarded at every commissary location with qualified applicants.
Sink Library Satellite Branch at FRC
The R.F. Sink Memorial Library has a satellite location at the Family Resource Center (FRC), which contains materials dealing specifically with deployment, separation, grief, career transition, and other major life changes. Between the R.F. Sink Library and the satellite location at the FRC, there are more than 100 titles with 20 copies of each title available for check-out. The satellite branch is available for use Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. If you don’t have a library card or account, no worries, the FRC staff can create a one for you. Memorial scholarship
Applications are being accepted for the LTG William P. Yarborough Chapter 38 Special Forces Association SFA Robin Moore Memorial Scholarship.
Life and paid up annual members of this chapter and/or an immediate Family member are qualified to apply for this
$1,000 scholarship.
The applicant must have been accepted by a school of higher learning – university, two-year college or techical school. Academic and technical applicants do not compete with each other.
Eligible applicants must submit the following documentation: a personal letter stating his or her educational and career plans/aspirations and the planned use of scholarship funds; a recent transcript, SAT score and/or other evidence of scholarship achievement; a reference letter from a teacher, counselor or school official; a summary of extracurricular activities, non-academic achievements and hobbies; a copy of acceptance letter from the institute of higher learning or technical school.
Applications are being accepted now by mail to Special Forces Association Chapter XXXVIII, ATTN: Scholarship, P.O. Box 223, Fort Campbell, KY 42223-0223.
Applications must be postmarked no later than April 15.
The scholarship will be awarded to one student at the 5th SFG (A) Organization
Day Picnic in September.

Predeployment fair
Many questions come to mind when you prepare for a deployment and when you return. Get answers to all of your reintegration and deployment related questions while collecting valuable information about the resources available to you at the Pre-Deployment Fair hosted by Army Community Service. The fairs will be held at the Family Resource Center from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. March 11, April 8 and May 13, 2010.
Find out the answers to your legal and financial questions and learn about the variety of Child, Youth and School Services programs available for your children. Find out information about the variety of MWR services, programs and discounts available to those who have a deployed Soldier. Free child care is provided through Kids on Site at the FRC while you visit the fair.

Army Family Team Building is a program designed to give Soldiers, Family members and community leaders an opportunity to give back to the Fort Campbell community by sharing their life experiences with others. All instructors within the program are volunteers who personalize the material with their own experiences to teach students how to apply the skills to real life.
AFTB is currently looking for volunteers to fill instructor positions and other positions such as Office Assistant, Committee Chair and more. Become a part of a valuable program, build your resume by volunteering and get free child care while you work.

BACH Tricare
Patients needing well woman examinations, ages 18-64 and are a prime beneficiary at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, may schedule appointments with a female provider at LaPointe Soldier Health Services. LaPointe typically offers medical care to the active duty population as a Soldier health clinic, but has opened its doors for family members to schedule their well women appointments for the next few months.
To schedule a well woman exam at LaPointe’s Carentan clinic, call (270) 798-8911. Schedules are available up to six weeks out for the convenience of the beneficiaries. Women who prefer to see their Primary Care Provider for their well woman visit should call the appointment line at (270) 798-4677 or (931) 431-4677 or if calling out of the area (866) 524-4677 (toll free). LaPointe is located at 5979 Desert Storm Ave.

The Child, Youth and School Services Online Solutions Web site allows patrons to begin pre-registration with CYS Services Central Enrollment, pay child care bills online and enroll your children for various Youth Sports and SKIESUnlimited programs.
The link to the CYS Services Online Solutions Web site is: https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/campbellcyms.html. A temporary user name is: 482583. A temporary password is: 37191. Patrons should use this system as an efficient and convenient way to pay for services and enroll into CYS Services programs.

Wounded warriors
All OIF/OEF injured and/or ill Soldiers are invited to a weekly Wounded Warrior lunch and support group at the Fort Campbell Fisher House every Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event gives combat casualties a safe place to talk and share information about programs and services. Spouses, significant others, parents or primary caregivers may attend the lunch. However, the group meeting afterward is for Soldiers only. For more information, call (270) 798-8330. AER college aid
Dependent children of Soldiers (active duty, retired and deceased) may apply for the AER’s MG James Ursano Scholarship Program. The program is for full-time students at an undergraduate, technical or vocational institution accredited by the Department of Education and is awarded annually for up to four academic years. Funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, supplies or school room and board. Students may reapply each year and must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale. All Soldiers and students must be registered in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System. Verify a student’s DEERS status at 1-800-538-9552.
Applications for scholarships will be available online through March 1, 2010 at www.aerhq.org. Online applications must be submitted by March 1, 2010. Other deadlines are in the instructions. AER will notify applicants about their scholarship in May 2010.
VMIS TRAINING
Fort Campbell tracks volunteers through the Volunteer Management Information System on www.armyonesource.com. VMIS provides tools to manage volunteerism in your military community with online recruitment, storage of volunteer records, roll-up of volunteer hours, easy and efficient communication with volunteers and volunteer managers. Volunteers may attend VMIS Volunteer Training at the Family Resource Center from 9 until 11 a.m., on any of the following dates: Feb. 16, March 9, April 13, May 11 and June 8. Child care vouchers will be provided for those reserving hourly child care; as no on-site child care will be provided. For a Family Readiness Support Assistant assigned to be the VMIS organization point of contact, there is training available on the same dates as above, from 1 until 3 p.m. No child care voucher or onsite child care will be provided for this training. Dates and times are subject to change. 2010 DeCA Scholarships Program
It’s time for students and parents to apply for the 2010 Scholarships for Military Children Program opening this month. Only dependent, unmarried children, younger than age 21 (age 23 if enrolled as a full- time student at a college or university) of active duty personnel, Reserve, Guard and retired military members, survivors of service members who died while on active duty, or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military may apply for a scholarship. Eligibility is determined using DEERS. The applicant must be planning to attend, or already be attending, an accredited college or university full time in the fall of 2010, or be enrolled in a program of studies designed to transfer directly into a four-year program.
Soldier and Family Newcomer’s Fair
The purpose of this event is to provide an interactive Family “Newcomer’s” orientation that welcomes and informs newly arrived Soldiers and Families about resources available to them on Fort Campbell. The Enhanced Newcomer’s Orientation will be held every third Thursday of the month
from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Families will gather at the Family Resource Center, inside Gate 1, and explore the various agencies to obtain valuable information about Fort Campbell. In the morning, you’ll register and receive a Welcome from Senior Command, take an installation tour and enjoy a free lunch sponsored by North Central Institute. Free child care will be provided by Kids On Site in the FRC. To register for free child care, please complete the registration packet one of three ways: packet provided to Soldier when in-processing at Kalsu 20th Replacement; visit www.webtrac.mwr.army.mil/; or pickup registration packet morning of fair at the FRC. Upon the conclusion of lunch, Families will visit with agencies, receive a Welcome packet and register for door prizes. Civilian Fitness
Join the Civilian Fitness Program, which allows you to work-out up to three hours a work week during a six-month long program. The best part is that you get paid while you get physically fit. Interested parties can register at any time and there is no cost to participate in the program. As with any program there are stipulations and regulations. Hispanic bible study

Veteran project
Homes for our Troops, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization strongly committed to supporting our severely injured veterans, is building a specially adapted home for Staff Sgt. Heath Calhoun. Calhoun was severely injured when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his Humvee on Nov. 7, 2003, while serving in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division. His injuries resulted in the amputation of both his legs above the knee.
Calhoun is currently living in a rented house with his wife and three children. Upon completion, the home will be donated to Calhoun and his family. Contact Homes for our Troops at www.homesforourtroops.org to learn more about how you can make a difference in a severely injured veteran’s life.
